Why switch

Agents that loop over many queries often hit rate limits on free and entry plans. With x402 each call carries its own payment, so a paid call is never rejected for exceeding a per-minute quota.

When Tavily may suit you better

Tavily returns LLM-oriented ranked content and has mature integrations. If you need its answer-style output or already rely on its ecosystem, it's a good choice.

Migrating

Replace the Tavily call with POST https://x402serps.com/api/v1/search {"q": ...}. Results come back as results[] with title, url and snippet. Our LangChain and Vercel AI SDK tools are listed on the Integrations page.

How it works

Tavily and x402serps both give agents a search tool. x402serps returns organic results from a third-party search provider in a compact list, plus separate endpoints for extraction, news and verticals, and it can be paid per call with x402 so an agent needs no account.

If you want search and page content in one step, /api/v1/search-extract searches and returns the text of the top 1 to 5 pages ($0.02). For a summarised answer with sources, /api/v1/research reads several pages and writes a short report ($0.08).

Request and response: /api/v1/search

POST /api/v1/search costs $0.004 per call. Send the parameters as a JSON body.

curl -X POST https://x402serps.com/api/v1/search \
  -H "content-type: application/json" \
  -H "X-Trial: 1" \
  -d '{"q":"x402 protocol","num":10,"gl":"us"}'

Example response (values shortened; field names are exactly what the API returns):

{
  "query": "x402 protocol",
  "provider": "primary",
  "results": [
    {
      "position": 1,
      "title": "x402",
      "url": "https://x402.org/",
      "snippet": "x402 is an open payment standard that lets clients pay for APIs and content over HTTP..."
    },
    {
      "position": 2,
      "title": "coinbase/x402: A payments protocol for the internet",
      "url": "https://github.com/coinbase/x402",
      "snippet": "x402 is a chain-agnostic protocol built around the HTTP 402 Payment Required status code..."
    }
  ]
}

Request and response: /api/v1/extract

POST /api/v1/extract costs $0.004 per call. Send the parameters as a JSON body.

curl -X POST https://x402serps.com/api/v1/extract \
  -H "content-type: application/json" \
  -H "X-Trial: 1" \
  -d '{"url":"https://example.com"}'

Example response (values shortened; field names are exactly what the API returns):

{
  "url": "https://example.com",
  "finalUrl": "https://example.com",
  "title": "Example Domain",
  "contentType": "text/html",
  "markdown": "This domain is for use in documentation examples without needing permission...",
  "length": 156,
  "truncated": false
}

Use cases

  • Drop-in agent search. Swap the search tool in LangChain, the OpenAI or Claude SDKs, or MCP.
  • Read the page, not just the snippet. Use extract or search-extract for full text.
  • Pay without plans. Use x402 or credits instead of a monthly plan.
  • High-volume loops. Paid calls have no per-minute rate limit.

Paying for calls

Every call is priced on its own. With x402, an unpaid request returns HTTP 402 with the exact amount, asset and recipient for USDC on Base or Solana; your client signs a payment and repeats the same request, and results come back once the payment settles. No account or API key is involved. If you would rather pay by card, buy a credit pack on the pricing page and send Authorization: Bearer xs_.... Cached repeat queries cost half for credit keys, and failed calls are not charged. Paid calls have no per-minute rate limit.

FAQ

Does x402serps rank results with AI?

No. It returns the provider's organic ranking. Use research if you want a summarised answer.

Do I need an account or API key?

No. With x402 the payment travels with the request, so there is nothing to sign up for. An API key (xs_...) is only used if you choose to prepay with a card.

Which chains and tokens are accepted?

USDC on Base mainnet and Solana mainnet, using the x402 exact scheme. Testnets are not accepted.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. Send the header X-Trial: 1 on search, news, single-URL extract and the vertical endpoints. Trial calls are limited per network and to 10 a minute.

Where do the results come from?

Results are fetched live from a third-party search provider and normalised into a small, stable JSON shape. If the primary provider fails, calls fail over to a backup where one is configured.

Try it free

Trial calls are limited to 25 per network in total and 10 per minute. Paid calls (x402 or a credit key) have no per-minute rate limit.
