Claude Desktop connects to remote MCP servers as custom connectors (Settings \u2192 Connectors). Custom request headers are not available on every plan, so the dependable route is the mcp-remote bridge in claude_desktop_config.json, which lets you send the trial header or your key.

Option A: custom connector

  1. Open Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector.
  2. Name: x402serps, URL: https://x402serps.com/api/mcp.
  3. If your plan shows Request headers, add Authorization = Bearer xs_YOUR_KEY. If it doesn't, use option B.

Option B: mcp-remote (free trial)

Edit claude_desktop_config.json (Settings → Developer → Edit Config). Needs Node.js.

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "x402serps": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "mcp-remote",
        "https://x402serps.com/api/mcp",
        "--header",
        "X-Trial:1"
      ]
    }
  }
}

Option B with card credits

Keep the header argument free of spaces and put the value in env:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "x402serps": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "mcp-remote",
        "https://x402serps.com/api/mcp",
        "--header",
        "Authorization:${AUTH_HEADER}"
      ],
      "env": {
        "AUTH_HEADER": "Bearer xs_YOUR_KEY"
      }
    }
  }
}

Fully quit and restart Claude Desktop, then check the tools icon in a new chat.

Pay per call with x402 instead: tool calls without a trial header or key return the x402 payment requirements, which an x402-aware client can pay in USDC on Base or Solana. Search is $0.004 a call. Buy a credit key on the pricing page.
