An Exa alternative you can pay per call, with no account
Exa search starts from $4 per 1,000 requests, the same $0.004 per search as x402serps. The difference is how you pay and connect: x402serps takes x402 USDC payments on Base or Solana with no signup, or prepaid card credits, and paid calls have no per-minute rate limit.

Why use x402serps
Agents with a wallet can pay per request without anyone creating an account or managing an API key. Teams that prefer cards can buy credits once and use a Bearer key.
When Exa may suit you better
Exa's neural index and semantic search are strong for finding similar pages and research-style queries. If you need that, use Exa; if you need classic search results pages (SERPs), local places or shopping results, x402serps fits.
Migrating
POST https://x402serps.com/api/v1/search {"q": ...}; extract page text with /api/v1/extract ($0.003 per URL).
How it works
Exa offers neural search over its own index. x402serps returns keyword search results from a third-party search provider, which suits queries about current events, products, docs and anything where you want the normal ranking of the open web.
Both cost $0.004 per basic search. The differences are payment and scope: x402serps can be paid per call with x402 USDC on Base or Solana with no account, and adds news, images, places, shopping, scholar and video endpoints with the same request style.

}Use cases
- Fresh, keyword-driven queries. Error messages, product names and recent news.
- Agent self-payment. Let an agent buy its own searches with x402.
- One API for verticals. Places, shopping, scholar and videos from the same base URL.
- Page reading. Follow up with /api/v1/extract for markdown text.
Paying for calls
Every call is priced on its own. With x402, an unpaid request returns HTTP 402 with the exact amount, asset and recipient for USDC on Base or Solana; your client signs a payment and repeats the same request, and results come back once the payment settles. No account or API key is involved. If you would rather pay by card, buy a credit pack on the pricing page and send Authorization: Bearer xs_.... Cached repeat queries cost half for credit keys, and failed calls are not charged. Paid calls have no per-minute rate limit.
FAQ
Does x402serps do semantic or neural search?
No. It is keyword web search. For similarity search over embeddings, a neural index like Exa's is the better fit.
Do I need an account or API key?
No. With x402 the payment travels with the request, so there is nothing to sign up for. An API key (xs_...) is only used if you choose to prepay with a card.
Which chains and tokens are accepted?
USDC on Base mainnet and Solana mainnet, using the x402 exact scheme. Testnets are not accepted.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. Send the header X-Trial: 1 on search, news, single-URL extract and the vertical endpoints. Trial calls are limited per network and to 10 a minute.
Where do the results come from?
Results are fetched live from a third-party search provider and normalised into a small, stable JSON shape. If the primary provider fails, calls fail over to a backup where one is configured.
Try it free
Trial calls are limited to 25 per network in total and 10 per minute. Paid calls (x402 or a credit key) have no per-minute rate limit.
