Web search in Codex CLI with x402serps
Codex reads MCP servers from ~/.codex/config.toml, shared by the CLI and IDE extension. Streamable HTTP servers take a url, static http_headers, and an optional bearer_token_env_var.

http_headers = { "X-Trial" = "1" }With card credits
[mcp_servers.x402serps] url = "https://x402serps.com/api/mcp" bearer_token_env_var = "X402SERPS_KEY"
Then export X402SERPS_KEY=xs_YOUR_KEY before starting Codex. Codex sends it as Authorization: Bearer …. Run /mcp in Codex to check the tools.
Pay per call with x402 instead: tool calls without a trial header or key return the x402 payment requirements, which an x402-aware client can pay in USDC on Base or Solana. Search is $0.004 a call. Buy a credit key on the pricing page.
